Google Doodle pays tribute to one of Indonesia's finest female doctors, Prof. Dr. Sulianti Saroso, on what would have been her 104th birthday. The illustration depicts Prof. Saroso wearing a stethoscope while examining a child, a fitting representation of her unwavering commitment to promoting maternal and family health in Indonesia.
Born on May 10, 1917, in Karangasem, Bali, Prof. Saroso was the second child of Dr. M Sulaiman, a well-known physician in his own right. Prof. Saroso followed in her father's footsteps, pursuing a career in medicine that would see her become one of the most influential healthcare professionals of her time.
Her journey to success was far from easy. Growing up, Prof. Saroso moved frequently due to her father's job, but this did not deter her from receiving a top-notch education. She attended the elite Gymnasium Bandung for her secondary education and later earned her medical degree from the Geneeskundige Hoge School (GHS) in Batavia, a prestigious medical school that was the predecessor to STOVIA.
After graduation, Prof. Saroso continued her studies in Europe and the United States, earning advanced degrees in public health. She then returned to Indonesia and began her illustrious career in medicine, dedicating herself to the promotion of maternal and family health. Her contributions to healthcare in Indonesia have left an indelible mark on the country's medical landscape.
Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of Prof. Dr. Sulianti Saroso, a true inspiration to us all
